Why should I come to a Blue Door Bakery workshop?
Because we really know our cupcakes. We baked about 20,000 cupcakes in 2010! Apart from just being pretty expert at we do, we’re all about sharing the cupcake love.
Can I buy gift vouchers for workshops?
Yes! You can buy them on our booking page. They are dated for 6 months from the date of purchase and the workshop must be attended within that time. We’ll send them out to you with a cupcake greetings card for you to give to the lucky recipient.
Won’t I feel a bit shy coming alone?
We hope not. Just over half of our bookings are for people attending on their own and we make everyone welcome.
Where are you?
We’re in Hagley, which is a village about 11 miles South of Birmingham, on the train line from Birmingham Moor Street or Snow Hill. If you’re driving, the postcode is DY9 0.
Why isn’t your full address on the website?
We’re a home business. When you book a workshop we send full directions and information, but we’d prefer it if people didn’t call in unannounced as we might not have any cupcakes ready for them.
I’m flying in for the class, which is the nearest airport?
Birmingham International Airport is 28 miles away. You can get a taxi, or a train from the airport station (Birmingham International) to our local station (Hagley) with one change. Please let us know if you need any help planning your trip!
I’m travelling a long way for the class and think I might stop over, any recommendations?
There is a Premier Travel Inn in our village, about 2 miles away. It’s clean, comfortable, simple accomodation with prices starting from £29 if you book early. Please let us know if you need any help planning your trip!
As I’m travelling so far, I might make a trip of it, any recommendations on things to do locally?
Great idea! We’re close to amazing shopping at Birmingham Bullring, The Black Country Living Museum and The West Midlands Safari Park, to name a few! Let us know if you need any more advice.
What time can I arrive for my workshop?
You’re welcome (and encouraged) to arrive for your workshop up to 15 minutes early. That way you can enjoy a cup of tea and something lovely before we begin. If you arrive earlier than 15 minutes before, we may not be here though!
Do you offer a discount for multiple bookings?
When you’ve booked 3 full day classes (per person, for yourself to attend), you can purchases your 4th class at half price. Just book your 4th class in the normal way and then email us to let us know the dates on the 3 classes that you’ve booked/attended and the date of the 4th class you’ve booked. We’ll then refund you for half of the price of the 4th class. Your half price place is available for 3 months from the date of your 3rd class. All 4 class places must be taken by a single person. As so many of you can’t keep away, this offer now also applies to your 4th and also your 8th class place too!
Can children come to the classes?
Children under 16 can’t come to the workshops unaccompanied we’re afraid. The person accompanying them will need to book their own place on the course.
Why do you love cupcakes so much?
They are small but perfectly formed, they can be as simple or as madly elaborate as you like, they are perfect for every occasion and most of all, they always make people smile.
What eggs are used in your cakes?
Our cupcakes are always made using free range eggs. Sometimes, these are even from our own hens, Rocky, Bluebelle and Barbara. If you would prefer us NOT to use our own eggs and only use Lion marked eggs in your cakes, please just let us know when placing your order.
Do you make cupcakes for special diets?
Unfortunately, we aren’t able to cater for gluten free diets. Also, because we use nuts in our kitchen, we can’t cater for people with nut allergies. Some of our sprinkles are also produced using peanut oil, please feel free to ask before attending a class.
Can you teach me to make big cakes?
We don’t currently provide lessons on making large wedding cakes, but you can finding listings for other classes around the country here: Cake Decorating Courses Directory.
How can I indulge my nosiness and find out what’s going on in the kitchen?
Find us on Twitter or Facebook to keep up with latest news and be the first to hear about any special deals. You can also keep an eye on our photos on Flickr.
Can I come and lick the bowl?
Sorry, we don’t let anyone lick the bowl (health and safety don’t you know) but if you join us for a class there is always plenty of spare cake…
